The Star Alliance RTW ticket has a comprehensive network of airlines giving exceptional routing for round the world tickets.
What are some of the main rules of the Star Alliance ticket?
Which airlines can I fly with?
Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airlines, Asiana, Austrian, bmi, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS (incl. Air Botnia), Shanghai Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, TAP Air Portugal, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines, United, US Airways, plus Spanair, Swiss, Adria Airways, Blue 1 and Croatia Airlines
NOTE: Some code-share flights are available.
How long can I take?
The Star Alliance ticket is valid for between 10 days and 12 months from the date of the first flight and you have to start and finish your RTW ticket in the same country.
There are 4 prices of Star Aliance RTW tickets based on mileage. The Special Economy RTW fare has a limit of 26,000, then the normal tickets are based on either 29,000, 34,000 or 39,000 miles.
Surface sectors count towards the miles used, but are definitely still worth it.
How many stops can I have?
Between 3 to 15 stops are permitted on the normal Star Alliance Round the World tickets, and between 3-5 stops in the 'Special Economy RTW Fare' which has a maximum mileage of 26,000 miles.
A 'stop' is classed as a stop if it is greater than 24 hours, otherwise it is a 'transfer'.
Surface sectors count as one stop. So flying into New York and out from Los Angeles counts as one stop and the mileage between the two is also taken into consideration when calculating the total mileage. Take a look at some of the exciting tours you can include to make your Star Alliance round the world flights more adventurous.
Where can I stop?
You must travel around the world and have only one trans-atlantic crossing and only one transpacific crossing.
Additionally, only one crossing between Europe/Africa/Middle East and Asia is allowed.
Always check the conditions of your flight ticket before booking to ensure you are aware of any charges or restrictions which may be applicable.
